Picnic in the summer sun brings Muslims and Jews together
8 August 2026
On Sunday 2nd August, we held our annual picnic in St Mary's Park, Prestwich. This brought together people from different faiths and cultures in an informal setting. The Forum has held a picnic every year since its formation 21 years ago except when the pandemic prevented it
Those attending hailed from all parts of Greater Manchester including Stockport, Whalley Range, and Bury. The weather was glorious throughout the afternoon. Over 20 people attended aged with ages ranging from the thirties to the eighties.
The Forum’s special guest was the current High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Mark Llewellin DL. He welcomed the guests and gave them a good insight into the history, role, and duties of the High Sheriff.
The event was organised by our Co-Chairs, Mohammed Amin MBE and Cllr Heather Fletcher who was Ceremonial Mayor of Salford until recently.
There was a warm and friendly atmosphere, and a variety of food to share. Those attending made new friends as well as re-acquainting with old ones.
Jackie Harrison, who is Jewish and a member of the Forum’s MJF Executive, said:
"It was a lovely afternoon where we shared food and had great conversation which is the best way to learn about each other."
Hassan Sajjid, who is Muslim, said:
"Another outstanding park meeting where the sun shone throughout. The Forum's Executive Committee have contributed a world of good to Greater Manchester. This event, open to all, brought together elected officials both right wing and left wing. They all made a valuable addition.”
