Our tributes to HM Queen Elizabeth II

Page created 20 September 2022

We were deeply saddened by the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and sent two emails to our mailing list. They are reproduced here for future readers.

Email on 8 September at 20:15 — The death of HM Queen Elizabeth II

We issued the following message a few moments ago on Twitter and Facebook, and I am writing to share it with our members and friends who might not see it otherwise.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth gave a lifetime of dedicated service to our country.

She was also a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We send our deepest condolences to her family for their loss.

RIP.

At lunchtime when I heard that the Queen was seriously ill, I was far more emotionally affected than I would have expected.

This is a very sad day for our country. Everyone my age or younger has never known another monarch.

At such times, Muslims say “Verily we belong to God and verily to God do we return” and Jews say “May her memory be for blessing."

Email on 17 September at 15:30 — Reflections before the late Queen is laid to rest

Dutiful, devoted, dignified and diligent are much used words to describe a unique woman namely the late Queen, Her Majesty Elizabeth II. Working until two days before she passed away was indicative of her great determination and work ethic.

From an interfaith perspective it is important to note that she was the first British Monarch to visit a UK Mosque during her Jubilee celebrations in 2002 and she visited Manchester Jewish Museum 10 years later. She was a patron of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust and the Council of Christians and Jews and was a religious woman who gained much strength from her Christian faith.

She will be much missed having been a constant in virtually all our lives. She will be especially missed by her family to whom we send our deepest condolences.

The late Queen's exemplary behaviour and strong leadership will undoubtedly guide our new Monarch, Charles III, as he starts his reign.

May her memory be a blessing.

G-d save the King.
